Labor Ministry lauds success
The Labor Ministry found jobs for more than 210,000 people last year, 55 percent of which were for women and 40 percent were overseas. According to a Labor Ministry report on its annual congress obtained by Khmer Times on February 19, the ministry provided occupation services and found jobs for 211,847 citizens, including 116,583 women. Of those jobs, 126,271 – or 60 percent – were in Cambodia. Sixty-five percent of the jobs inside the country went to 81,844 women. The report added that 85,576 Cambodians found work overseas including 76,433 in Thailand, 7,371 in South Korea, 1,562 in Japan, 123 in Malaysia and 87 in Singapore. More than 1.15 million Cambodians were working abroad in 2016, including 1,056,358 in Thailand alone. This figure includes about 310,000 people who have no legal documents.
